    Shadow Work is a collection of songs that documents my journey back to self. It initially looks to my past, some pretty dark times and moves through these of reflection, acceptance, healing and transformation. I am releasing these songs in 2020 in order to let go of a lot of past pain and to set my intentions for the present and the future. I am making space for new blessings. Looking back and allowing myself to feel so that I can truly heal and move forward. I am changing my life experience by letting this music out into the world. I was very afraid to do so for a long time. The content in the songs is very personal and I was scared about repercussions and judgment but I have moved into my power and with the support of the wonderful people around me I feel it's an important step to take. I refuse to reside in shame any longer. Shadow Work is the difficult task we must undertake in order to be able to change our life experience... dealing with the hidden parts of ourselves that cause us issues, working through the darkness, the pain and the stored negative thought patters, the intergenerational trauma and all that no longer serves us. There is no light without the dark and this is my collection of songs that moved between these phases and beyond.

Change tells the story of the intergenerational patterns I am desperate not to pass on to my own child. I'm singing about the cycles that affect so many families, passed down again and again, leaving us recycling certain negative behaviours that may have protected us at some stage but are now just damaging. I remember reading a quote that stated if a woman manages to heal herself from intergenerational trauma, she will save all those who came before her and all those to come. This really resonated with me. I made it my life's purpose to heal from codependency and past trauma so that my child could be free from it. I was so determined for him to not have to repeat the same patterns that I did. It's a plea for us to search deep within ourselves and to not inflict the pain on others that was inflicted upon us. It's also full of hope and non-judgement, a realisation that the inner child exists in all of us and we are all products of our experiences but that there is hope for change if we have the capacity to self-reflect and create a new experience for ourselves and our children through conscious parenting and attachment theory. This song is the tipping point on the EP, the first two tracks are looking back, the next two are a new and beautiful present and Change is the bridge between these different states. Renell had the idea to include a recording of my son Ché being asked why being able to change is important and about why it's important to love yourself. My three year old told me "the more you don't love yourself, the more you'll die" this makes me laugh and cry every time I hear it! Partly because it's so true, from the mouths of babes! When I hated myself and lived with so much shame, I was dying on the inside, suffering from chronic health conditions and existing in an extremely difficult state. The ability to love myself was triggered in the most beautiful way by becoming a mother and this wonderful little soul teaches me so much every single day ❤️
