Wild Woman

about

Wild Woman was partially inspired by the incredible book "Women Who Run With The Wolves" by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés and also by the Free Birth Society podcast which has been truly pivotal for me. So much has been sparked by this on my journey to becoming a Radical Birthkeeper as well as the music I am currently creating. The song is a tribute to all the wild women in the world and a big F*ck You to the patriarchy. In February of this year I participated in a life-changing women's retreat in Dominican Republic The Motherlovin' Retreat organised by Nurturing Novas and Free Birth Society in Dominican Republic. During this trip I sang the song for the 24 women from all over the world who had gathered there. We were high over Samaná Bay where the humpback whales come to birth their babies every year. We were sitting in circle and there were candles and incense burning with a mandala of fresh tropical flowers centred in the middle of all of us. I asked the women to close their eyes and I shared this song I had written in their honour, dedicated to them. Women cried and smiled and it felt so incredibly magical. It was a song that wasn't intended for release until next year as part of my new album but then I got a very welcome and happy surprise. I was asked if I would be happy to record the song to be used as the new theme song for the Free Birth Society Podcast series, launching on 7th September, which coincidentally is my birthday! Of course I said yes. On the final night of the retreat, after 10 days of sitting in healing circles, learning about food as medicine, herbal remedies, yoni steaming, tantric touch, daily yoga and sunrise meditation and forming bonds with so many sisters, we had a closing full moon ceremony on the beach. We created a gorgeous mandala from shells, seeds, nuts and leaves found on the seashore, we lay around the outside of the mandala we had lovingly created to give back to the ocean and Katya Nova's husband Rob photographed the 24 of us. That night we danced around the bonfire and threw that which no longer served us into the flames. We all howled like wild wolves and I recorded these howls with my phone so that I could inject this incredible magic into this piece of music when I got back to London. I am so excited to share this piece of music with the world, it feels so full of magic and power.

lyrics

Verse 1

Wild flowers oh let them grow
The seeds they need to be sown
Don’t try to hold this beauty for just one day
If we align we will possess it forever

Pre-chorus

Wild woman she lives inside
Wild woman from you I will not hide
They could not burn your spirit away
So please teach me your ways
I’m ready to learn from you
Wild Woman

Chorus

I still run, run, run with the wolves when it’s time
I still run, run, run we were all once wild
I still run, run, run with the wolves when it’s time
We all came from wild woman

Verse 2

Flower moon reflecting May’s spring light
Aid this sleep and help my dreams take flight
Domesticated for so long
I could not recall
The devil’s embers cannot extinguish this magic

Pre-chorus

Wild woman she still lives inside
Wild woman from you I cannot hide
They could not burn your spirit away
So please teach me your ways
I’m ready to learn from you
Wild Woman

Chorus

I still run, run, run with the wolves when it’s time
I still run, run, run we were all once wild
I still run, run, run with the wolves when it’s time
We all came from you wild woman

Spoken Word Section:

I honour you for the wisdom you held
The ancient traditions of plant medicine and womb magic
I feel the spirit of the ancestors when I place my hand on my belly
This sacred portal will be honoured
Eons upon light beams of survival
Withstanding eradication of our power by design
I will not allow the separation of our young to be forced upon me
My sisters will no longer birth in captivity
The picket line redefined from burning our wild women to paralysing us and drugging our babes
Strapped down in a clinical white bed
Drying up the milk from our breasts
Keep your needles
My family will never again be doomed to chase those dragons or your poison
We reject your fear
We choose love
Everything with intention
Death, ascension
I will fly and bring her back from the stars
Conscious conception
